NEST REFRESHER COURSE

What is the Refresher Course?

The NEST Refresher Course is a simulation-based training session designed to reinforce key neonatal resuscitation skills in a low-stakes, team-focused environment.

While not part of formal NRP certification, this course is an important component of our longitudinal education model, offering practice between certification cycles.

Why it's important?

Neonatal resuscitation is a rare but high-stakes event. Without ongoing exposure, skills fade and confidence drops. This course helps teams:

  • Maintain readiness between NRP certification cycles
  • Strengthen communication and role clarity
  • Reinforce key technical and non-technical skills
  • Identify practice gaps before they affect patient care

What to Expect

  • Participants: Interdisciplinary groups
  • Duration: 3-4 hours
  • Format: Fully hands-on, no lectures
  • Activities: Skill Stations followed by small-group simulation sessions

No preparation required: Just sign up and show up ready to learn!

No exam or pass/fail assessment: the focus is on practice, feedback, and shared learning in a safe environment

Eligibility

This course is open to:

  • Staff from the Women & Children’s Health Program at Saint John Regional Hospital
  • Staff who obtained NRP Provider status from NEST courses
  • Learners and trainees rotating through NICU or Pediatrics
  • Outreach partners participating in NEST-supported simulation
