NRP is an educational program that introduces the concepts and skills of neonatal resuscitation. In Canada, NRP is administered by the Canadian Paediatric Society.
Our Provider Courses are standardized and delivered in accordance with the most current NRP guidelines. It is designed to mirror the realities of neonatal resuscitation: time-critical decision-making and interprofessional collaboration.
Interdisciplinary by design
Learners and instructors come from multiple professional backgrounds, mirroring real teams. Instructors are intentionally assigned to skills stations that align with their clinical expertise, ensuring focused, relevant teaching.
Immersive, in-person format (8 hours)
Our standardized structure prioritizes hands-on practice, repetition, and progressively complex scenarios, without lectures or passive content.
Healthcare providers who are expected to participate in neonatal resuscitation as part of their current professional role.
At this time, our NRP Provider Courses are offered to:
If you're a Horizon employee, please contact your department educator/manager.
Review the NRP textbook to familiarize yourself with key concepts, including the initial steps of resuscitation, ventilation strategies, and advanced resuscitation techniques.
Complete the Advanced NRP Course and all online components before the session.
Print your Certificate of Completion or email it to nrp@nicunest.ca.
Consider your current comfort level with neonatal resuscitation and identify areas you'd like to improve. Having clear goals will help you make the most of hands-on practice and feedback.

Participants rotate through targeted stations that follow the NRP algorithm step-by-step, with emphasis on sequence, timing, and troubleshooting of critical interventions.

Small-group simulation scenarios allow learners to integrate technical skills, clinical reasoning, and communication. Instructors provide structured, actionable feedback to support improvement and readiness.

The course concludes with individual assessments using the Individual Integrated Skills Station Assessment, as per Canadian Pediatric Society standards.
NRP is an educational program, not a certification. Successful completion of an NRP course does not indicate proficiency in all aspects of neonatal resuscitation.
NRP provider status is valid for one year for midwives and two years for all other healthcare providers. NRP does not offer a "recertification pathway"; participants must complete the full provider course each time their provider status expires.
NRP providers are expected to:
Keep your neonatal resuscitation skills sharp with a hands-on refresher course. Available to providers with a current NRP status.
NRP provider courses are eligible for continuing professional development (CPD/CME) credits. For details on credit eligibility and credit types, please visit the CPS website:
We offer weekend NRP Provider Courses for private groups starting with 6 participants. Courses are offered at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
